Fruit Market in Calcutta

So my aunt took me around North Calcutta, the old part of Cal the other day. We had a marvelous day, that started in one of the oldest fruit markets in the city. We had a blast getting ripped off for our fruits, but the best was when my aunt asked someone to point us to where the mangoes were. Mangoes are traditionally best in the summer time, and I had been complaining that I hadn't had a decent mango since I began visiting during the winter only.

my aunt: where are the mangoes?
random vendor: madame, the mangoes are in the jungle!

just finished

Jhumpa Lahiri's Unaccustomed Earth. I wasn't expecting to love it as much as I did, especially since her previous works didn't speak to me so much. The stories in this book were so honest, and some of the lines just slid into my brain like they were always there. I think Deeps was saying how you saw yourself in almost every character. I didn't understand that until I read it. I wonder if our experience as immigrants and children of immigrants is that universal?
